【摘要】:Properhandlingandpreparationofspecimensisparticularlycriticalforanalysis.Improperhandlingofspecimenscanresultinalterationofthesurfacecompositionandunreliabledata.Specimensshouldbehandledcarefullysoastoavoidtheintroductionofspuriouscontaminants.Thegoalmustbetopreservethestateofthesurfacesothatanalysisremainsrepresentativeoftheoriginalsubject.Augerelectronspectroscopy(AES),X-rayphotoelectronspectroscopy(XPS),andsecondaryionmassspectroscopy(SIMS)aresensitivetosurfacelayersthataretypicallyafewnanometresthick.Suchthinlayerscanbesubjecttosevereperturbationsfromimproperspecimenhandling(1).3Thisguidedescribesmethodstominimizetheeffectsofspecimenhandlingontheresultsobtainedusingsurface-sensitiveanalyticaltechniques.Itisintendedforthespecimenownerorthepurchaserofsurfaceanalyticalservicesandthesurfaceanalyst.Becauseofthewiderangeoftypesofspecimensanddesiredinformation,onlybroadguidelinesandgeneralexamplesarepresentedhere.Theoptimumhandlingprocedureswillbedependentontheparticularspecimenandtheneededinformation.Itisrecommendedthatthespecimensupplierconsultthesurfaceanalystassoonaspossiblewithregardtospecimenhistory,thespecificproblemtobesolvedorinformationneeded,andtheparticularspecimenpreparationorhandlingproceduresrequired.ThesurfaceanalystalsoisreferredtoGuideE1078thatdiscussesadditionalproceduresforpreparing,mounting,andanalysisofspecimens.1.1Thisguidecoversspecimenhandlingandpreparationpriortosurfaceanalysisandappliestothefollowingsurfaceanalysisdisciplines:1.1.1Augerelectronspectroscopy(AES),1.1.2X-rayphotoelectronspectroscopy(XPSorESCA),and1.1.3Secondaryionmassspectrometry,SIMS.1.1.4AlthoughprimarilywrittenforAES,XPS,andSIMS,thesemethodsmayalsoapplytomanysurface-sensitiveanalysismethods,suchasionscatteringspectrometry,low-energyelectrondiffraction,andelectronenergylossspectroscopy,wherespecimenhandlingcaninfluencesurface-sensitivemeasurements.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
